 Raw Prickly Pear Apple Pie

This recipe is a special SouthWest treat for anyone with Nopal Cactus fruit in their environment. 10-12 Servings (1 Pie). If you can, please use all organic, non-GMO ingredients. For this recipe to be truly raw make sure to pick up nuts and ingredients that saw “RAW”. 

Prep: Soak all nuts overnight or 5-7 hours before making (instead of baking ;)).

Pie Crust:

  • 2C Almonds
  • 1C Brazil Nuts,
  • 3T Coconut Oil,
  • 2-3T Local Honey
  • 1tsp Celtic Sea Salt

Blend nuts in food processor. Double boil coconut oil and honey until fluid then add to the food processor and mix with nuts. If you need to add more of anything, feel free!

Pie Filling:

  • 2 Green Apples
  • 1/2C Nopal Cactus Juice (With gloves, wild harvest prickly pears when they are a deep purple or have just fallen off of the cactus. Shave off pickers with knife. Put whole thing in blender and strain. Be sure not to drink too much at once (I learned the hard way). This plant is medicine and very powerful!)
  • 2T Raw Honey
  • 2T Raw Coconut Oil
  • Irish Moss (Optional, incredibly mineralizing. Soak and rinse 5 times over 5 hours. It makes the texture more gelatinous and creamy) 
  • Raw Soaked Dehydrated Almonds
  • 1/2 Lemon (Juice)
  • A Pinch of Citric Acid
  • A Pinch of Celtic Sea Salt.

Combine all ingredients in food processor. Taste and add more honey if you’d like it more sweet!
